The School premises were used by various local clubs and societies for meetings etc. see SP2/20 below for Accounts of Fees of Letting of Rooms 1896-1966. Records of four such groups were deposited along with the records of the Sunday School itself, and are listed below SP2/37-62 Ancient Order of Foresters, SP2/63, 64 Church of England Friendly Society, SP2/65, 66 Macclesfield Philharmonic Society and SP2/67, Macclesfield and District Amateur Billiard League.

Administrative / biographical background:

In 1796 John Whittaker commenced a Sunday school of 40 scholars in Pickford Street. By 1812 his scholars numbered 2,149 and were dispersed in some five different premises. A new building was erected in Roe Street in 1813 at a cost of £5,640, and the school opened there 10 Apr. 1814 1914 Directory and C. S. Davies A History of Macclesfield pp.218-220. The decision to close the School was made at the Teachers' Meeting Sep. 1973 see SP2/2/4 below
